EIT Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is Europe’s foremost climate innovation initiative, entrusted by the European Commission to catalyse transformation through innovation. Headquartered in Amsterdam, with circa 160 people distributed all over the EU, EIT Climate-KIC leads and orchestrates innovation with a community of more than 400. Together we conduct activities in 39 countries. We partner with cities, regions, governments and communities with the highest climate action ambition; providing the framework and expert support to holistically manage the complexity of climate change and deliver accelerated climate action.

EIT Climate-KIC operates as a not-for-profit platform working through public-private partnership, wielding both public and private funding. We consist of 3 Legal entities: a Dutch BV Holding company (for profit) with 14 branches in European jurisdictions, providing grant management, innovation orchestration services, and impact investment advisory owned by a Dutch-based foundation with charity status – Climate-KIC International Foundation. Historically, we have been funded by our founder and core funder, the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), but we are currently transitioning to a multi-funder model.


ABOUT THE ROLE

Climate-KIC has been progressing the delivery of Transformation, with Urgency, by taking a portfolio approach, applying systems innovation, taking a demand-led view, and activating communities to support climate action. This is intended to unlock transformation to a net-zero, resilient future. To support our mission, we are developing an impact framework fit for that purpose.

We need a robust MEL team to support embedding evaluative thinking and learning across the organisation. The MEL team will also lead the assessment of whether we are progressing well on implementing the impact framework and if that is creating progress towards the goals we have set. In this context, we also need to build MEL into new funding relationships and can create a strong external community around MEL around innovation for systems change.

You will be responsible for designing MEL approaches for new funders and for potential challenge owners. You will do this with the idea of creating systems innovation MEL as a service and use this to grow a larger function by attracting money.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with key stakeholders across Climate-KIC to develop buy-in, skills and take up of the Impact Framework
  • Facilitating workshops to:
    • (Co)design MEL context-adequate MEL Frameworks, including Theory of Change and Measurement and Learning tools, with diverse current and potential partners
    • Sense make quantitative and qualitative data with diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Build MEL capacity of EIT Climate-KIC staff and partners
  • Analysing and synthetizing reports to produce actionable internal and external intelligence reports
  • Support the development of a systems innovation MEL approach as a service
  • Support embedding this service within Future Funding activities
  • Work across the team and with external parties to hone a specific set of services
  • Implement and operationalize the Impact Framework as needed, including supporting all internal processes and reporting to Boards as needed
  • Deliver services to external clients as needed
  • Support monitoring, learning and portfolio management processes across EIT Climate-KIC
  • Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders to communicate and market our service and collect feedback for improvement

Key Working Relationships

MEL team, within the context of Learning, MEL and Insights Cluster. You will also likely engage and work with multiple teams, including with Business Development, Project Management Office and all those involved in demand generation.

Every person working in Climate-KIC will spend an average of 4 points (2 working days) per month honing their skills and strengthening their capabilities as part of one or more Communities of Practice.

Location

Candidates must have the right to work in the location they’re applying for (I.e. not require visa sponsorship) prior to applying for the position. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based close to one of the EIT Climate KIC offices, but we support fully remote or hybrid forms of working and offer a high degree of flexibility.
