Job Description

As a Quality Engineer for SUSE Core Platforms, you will be part of a growing team ensuring the quality of SUSE’s strategic investment and work within the Core Platforms QE Team which is responsible for the validation and delivery of the core infrastructure platform that underpins SUSE solutions, including Edge.

The candidate will implement and execute quality standards through systematic testing processes. You’ll develop and maintain comprehensive test suites, perform detailed analysis, and ensure the platform’s reliability across diverse scenarios.

Responsibilities:

Create, document and maintain a comprehensive test strategy, detailed test plans, test cases, and quality metrics based on the requirements and specifications

Design and execute test strategies for validating Kubernetes-based platforms across on-premise hardware, private, and public clouds

Develop and maintain automated test frameworks for complex distributed systems, ensuring scalability and reliability

Collaborate with development teams to ensure early detection and resolution of issues

Validate core platform functionality, characteristics, and behavior across different SUSE solutions

Perform thorough analysis of test results and provide detailed quality reports

Build and maintain test environments that simulate real-world deployment scenarios

Stay updated with the latest advancements in the open-source cloud-native ecosystem, particularly in testing methodologies, tools, and best practices, to ensure continuous improvement in testing strategies

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

8+ years experience in software testing, automation, and DevOps practices

Hands-on experience with test automation and continuous integration practices

Strong experience with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes

Experience testing distributed systems and Kubernetes based platforms preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

Expertise in quality assurance and test methodologies and testing frameworks (Ginkgo or similar)

Experience with test management tools such as Qase or similar for organizing, tracking, and reporting test activities

Experience with performance testing and monitoring tools

Strong understanding of CI/CD tools and pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Prow, or similar)

Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation practices using tools like Ansible, Terraform/OpenTofu, or similar

Proficiency in multiple programming languages commonly used in cloud-native and automation environments such as Python, Go, or similar

Proven ability to lead initiatives and mentor engineers with a strong track record of driving quality projects to success

Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving, a customer-centric mindset, and a passion for maintaining high-quality standards

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Experience with test environment setup and maintenance

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
