Title: Senior Counsel, (Central region)
Job Description:
Zendesk is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to provide hands-on legal advice on a variety of topics to the Central region (DACH and CEE). This role will require knowledge on key areas such as data privacy, employment, compliance issues as well as the ability to negotiate revenue-generating agreements with customers. The successful candidate will form part of our outstanding Commercial Legal team and will report into the EMEA Commercial Legal Director. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Senior Counsel looking to play a critical part in the expansion of one of Zendesk’s key markets as part of a large global team. This role will be remote, ideally based in Germany, Kraków, London or Dublin, but other EMEA territories considered. As a key strategic business partner responsibilities will include:
- Developing a close working relationship with the company’s DACH and CEE leadership to help enable and protect the business in proactive and creative ways
- Partner with other key functions of the organisation such as Sales, Rev Ops, Pre Sales to ensure strong alignment with Legal
- Provide practical and business-minded legal advice to business stakeholders on a variety of legal topics such as compliance issues, product, privacy, employment, commercial matters and provide general risk management.
- Monitor changes in laws in the region and partner with our excellent Legal and Compliance team to find ways to implement local laws where required.
- Negotiating revenue-generating and non revenue-generating agreements.
- Assist with other strategic projects for the success of our global Legal team
- Training the business on a variety of legal topics of importance in the region.
- Assist with the drive for consistency and efficiency across the Legal Team by seeking out and sharing expertise and experiences, information, learnings, know-how and experiences with colleagues and the business.
- Build and maintain relationships with external counsel and instruct external counsel as needed for specific expertise.
- Some travel will be required
Qualifications:
- Fully-qualified lawyer in Germany preferred but not essential.
- 4+ years experience with corporate or commercial law in an in-house and/or law firm environment (preference for both)
- Expertise in drafting, redlining and negotiating a wide variety of commercial and tech transactions typical to the SaaS technology sectors, such as Subscription Agreements, Services Agreements, Data Processing Agreements, especially in the digital environment (SaaS, cloud computing)
- Good working knowledge of local compliance and employment laws preferred but not essential.
- Full fluency in German and English, both written and verbal;
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of privacy and data protection laws, and other EU regulations and standards
- Ability to provide clear, concise and actionable guidance on complicated legal questions to non-lawyer stakeholders
- Strong track record of performance in demanding, high-paced environments
- High degree of tech savvy, with the ability to complete projects quickly, independently, and with minimal supervision (though you’ll always have the support you need)
- Strong organizational, project management, and execution skills with a collaborative and flexible approach when partnering with others
- Adaptability to change
